Barge East is a floating dining room with rustic decor offering seasonal fare with coffee, cocktails, beer & cider. Barge East is a delightfully unusual spot with shimmering fairy lights and gorgeous views across the lake. This Hackney Wick hotspot offers it all, whether you’re searching for supper, cocktails, or both. Several meal options, ceramic barbeques, and a fantastic assortment of beverages exist. Designed with sustainability in mind by Head Chef Stefano Camplone, Barge East offers a choice of set meals, and Sunday roasts made using readily accessible seasonal food and ingredients from Barge East’s on-site gardens and local suppliers. The historic 118-year-old Dutch barge, moored on the River Lee in Hackney Wick, has been turned from its past existence as a freight barge in Holland into a floating restaurant and bar in East London.
Barge East Gardens & Terrace is next door to the riverfront street food and bar. Its genuine venues offer a range of eating experiences: The Lower Deck Main Dining Room is located in the barge’s hull and offers views of the chef’s kitchen. The Upper Deck features heated covered or uncovered outdoor areas with 360-degree riverbank views of London. Exclusive dining experience for groups of 6 to 10 in the isolated Captain’s Cabin – a lovely, fairy-lighted place nestled behind the Captain’s wheel, where customers can play their music and decorate the cabin to help theme their event. On Saturdays, Bottomless Brunch is now available from 12-3:30 pm. Head to Barge East Gardens and Terrace, our neighboring riverbank gardens, for street food and drinks provided by local producers and breweries.
Barge East was proudly awarded the coveted Newcomer Award at the 2021 Catey Awards, the restaurant industry’s equivalent of an Oscar. Other accolades for this one-of-a-kind dining experience in East London include London’s #1 Restaurant 2019 – 2020 and Travelers’ Choice 2020 and 2021 by Tripadvisor. With al fresco eating, they provide a variety of excellent burgers. You’ll also discover some old favorites from previous Barge East menus. Their outside street food buffet is available for takeout or in our magnificent canal-side garden. Everything you will see in their garden is edible, cultivated when it is ready, and used by Barge East chefs. The friendliest of staff, nothing too much trouble (and we had many questions and requests). The drinks were superb. The food is unmissable- I cannot recommend this quirky barge enough – we had sublime starters, magnificent mains, and the most delicious desserts.
