Avoid this place like the plague... Whether you're gay or straight.

August 26, 2023

‘I don’t want to hurt you’… This is what was said to me by the woman at the door who wouldn’t allow us in. I have never felt so hurt myself. I felt less than human… I try not to he petty but this has to he called out. In a gay culture where we don’t judge and accept all, this place failed. They deserve to fail. I look forward to the day when they realize the mistakes they continue to make. But by then it is too late and they will close permanently. These places never last… limiting yourself to a type of cleintle with a certain look ultimately fails but I’m sure they think their discrimination is good marketing… They have drag performances there and it’s advertised in many gay publications marketed to Americans… Is this because I’m American? It certainly felt that way… I conduct myself in a very respectful manner. I hadn’t been drinking. I have money to spend. We wanted to eat and grab a drink. There was no line to get in. There is nothing on their website about a dress code. In fact, there’s a Trip Advisor mention that this place doesn’t have a dress code. This place was recommended to us .. I was wearing a button down shirt and jeans. Was it the baseball cap? Then tell me to take it off… It is hard to travel with just dress pants and dress shoes… This is a bad reflection on Porto. I want to make sure that every gay traveler avoids this place like the plague whether you’re American or not.
