Enjoy!

In the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas, the coastal city of Corpus Christi (Ecclesiastical Latin: “Body of Christ”) is the largest. The city is named after the “body of Christ” in the Ecclesiastical Latin language as a reference to the Christian sacrament of Holy Communion.

It was named by Spanish explorer Alonso de Pineda on Corpus Christi, the Western Christian festival of the feast day, for the settlement and the bay around it.

A little about Corpus Christi’s weather

Located on the southern coast of Florida, the city enjoys very humid subtropical weather throughout the year. Heat and humidity characterize the summers, while cold and dry prevail in the winter.

The weather is the coolest between November and February. March through April are the months when warming trends are noticeable. June through September is the warmest time of year, with August being the hottest month.

Although it is still hot, October in Chicago is not as hot as summer. There are two seasons in Gulfport, just as on the Gulf Coast, a wet one from April to October and a dry one from November to March. Often, winds reach speeds of 25 miles per hour in Corpus Christi due to its location.

Culture and Attractions in Corpus Christi

A distinct sense of identity and community remains in many parts of Corpus Christi, particularly in the Calallen and Flour Bluff areas. Many tourist attractions are located in the city, as well as places of interest for residents. Visitors and tourism information can be obtained through the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau.

There is a Texas State Aquarium on North Beach and the Lexington Museum on the bay, among the most visited attractions. In addition, there are often gardening programs offered at the nearby Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center.

Padre Island and Mustang Island, located directly east of Corpus Christi, have several host states, national and municipal parks, including the Padre Island National Seashore. A nearby ranch, King Ranch, was the inspiration for the movie Giant and is one of the largest in the world.

There are many places where you can find food this late at night when you’re in a hurry for something greasy and delicious. Catching onto some starry nights

Nighttime in Corpus Christi is bright and starry! Stargazing on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico can be a memorable experience, especially when combined with the Gulf breeze and sound of the waves. Coastal Bend state parks such as Mustang Island State Park, Padre Island National Seashore, and Goose Island State Park are great places to stargaze.

Astronomers typically recommend viewing the stars during a cold front or on a hot summer night. Keep up to date on stargazing parties and meteor showers on Mustang Island State Park’s website or Facebook page!

Light interference is minimal near the Padre Island National Seashore’s South Beach (five miles south of the Malaquite Visitor Center). As one travels further into the wilderness, the interference drops. There is also a stargazing area near parking at the Malaquite Visitor Center, the North End Observatory.

You can also gaze at the stars at Goose Island State Park. Updates about star-gazing events can be found on the Goose Island State Park website. In addition, Star wheels and other tools for stargazing are provided by park rangers as part of their astronomy lessons.

A trip to learn about astronomy is in store for the Coastal Bend! If you’re on the beach at night, don’t forget your binoculars, telescope, blanket, and other items.
