Mc Govern’s Tavern Bar New Jersey, Guide & Review

Mc Govern’s Tavern is a long-running, low-key neighborhood Irish bar & grill with a pub-grub menu. A “Cheers style” neighborhood bar frequented by retired cops, college students, and local Newark residents. This Newark landmark has recently been renovated with a fresh new look. Mc Govern’s Tavern was originally opened by Frank McGovern in 1936 as a meeting place for Irish immigrants, and today serves up 12 taps and a carefully selected offering of bottled craft beer. Local college bars can get busy during the academic year on weekends and holidays. Mc Govern’s Tavern is an institution of the local community right in the heart of downtown Newark. Mc Govern’s Tavern back in its dive bar days, was the favorite after-work hangout for Star-Ledger staffers. It was named one of the country’s 150 best bars by The Daily Meal.

Mc Govern’s Tavern features great delicious and always fresh food served hot; excellent service; great Irish pub ambiance; friendly, attentive & welcoming staff – they take care of you and makes it a great experience every time; cool and fun outdoor seating, amazing vibe; courteous and knowledgeable wait staff; perfect corned beef Reuben; friendly Irish pub atmosphere; large selection of tasty and strong drinks that are reasonably priced – plenty of beers on the tap; delicious cocktails; and cool friendly owner. They also also offer seasonal drink and shot specials, a chilled Fireball Shot Dispenser pints of Guinness and other brews and bar fare like a 10-inch bar pie pizza and a sandwich called the Dublin Decker (corned beef, turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing served on rye bread).

The pub brings the best food and beer & spirits out for friends to enjoy. Always a great experience at Mc Govern’s Tavern. With all the college students, workers, and lawyers expect it to be always popping. Mc Govern’s Tavern is highly recommended to hang out with friends and enjoy a good brew with some Irish music, song and dance, and some good Irish fare, and corn sandwiches.
