If you’re into history, you’ve got to hit up the Ybor City Museum. It’s legit awesome! It is small, but it is packed with info, and get this—it’s in a former bread bakery. There is an excellent park about Ybor City’s immigrant history in front of the Museum. One of the highlights for me was stepping into a Casita, a tiny house where cigar factory workers and their families used to live. You can check out the living area, kitchen, and even the kids’ bedrooms.

Take advantage of the Ferlita Bakery building from the ’20s. It’s the main museum in the park. You’ll learn about Ybor City’s birth, the cigar industry, and how the town evolved. It’s the perfect way to create memorable moments with your crew and capture the essence of Ybor City’s rich history.

Final Words: Stay Safe

It’s been super touristified, and as long as you stay in the central parts (think 7th), you’ll be fine. It would help if you worried more about petty crimes (like someone stealing your phone or wallet) than something more violent, especially during the busier nights.

There have been periods where it’s been more dangerous. Ybor is an “open market” for all types of evil and those who like to find it. Part of the danger is that people are often inebriated when they’re there, which puts them at a higher risk of being predated. Prana/Tangra are also a hot zone for the type of people who are prone to violence. The main street is well-lit; if you go to the north side of 7th, it’s primarily semi-decent apartments. You can park at a Church (the one with Rusty) that’s on the other side of Palm.
