Vesuvio Cafe San Francisco, Guide & Review

Vesuvio Cafe is a world-renowned San Francisco Saloon located in North Beach just across from the infamous City Lights Bookstore, was first established in 1948 and remains an historical monument to jazz, poetry, art and the good life of the Beat Generation. The legendary Vesuvio Cafe have over time been frequented by cultural icons such as beat poets like Allen Ginsberg and nevelist Jack Kerouac, poermt and founder of City Lights Bookstore across the street, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and poet/singer Bob Dylan. Vesuvio Cafe is one of the last remaining old world drinking establishments that give you the feel of vintage San Francisco during the beatnik era. The sitting upstairs will give you a good view from the windows and you can spend an afternoon there just watching.

Vesuvio Cafe attracts a diverse clientele: artists, chess players, cab drivers, seamen, and business people, European Visitors, off-duty exotic dancers and born Vivants from all walks of life. Grab a seat at the bar and a soak in the photographs and aged patina, or go upstairs for a cozier setting and bird’s eye view of one of San Francisco’s most electric bars. Vesuvio Cafe features great ambiance, excellent hip atmosphere, friendly & attentive staff, quick sraff, plenty of comfy seatings, good fun vibe – really feels like your neighborhood bar where you’re a regular, good tasty & strong drinks, reasonable prices, great view of the hustle & bustle of Broadway and Columbus from the upper floor, and chic decor.

What a great little corner pub with history and culture. This is one of the best San Francisco Bars in San Francisco. An San Francisco institution and essential piece of the city’s history. What a trip to visit this fabulous throw-back bar that has lasted through thick and thin. A must see spot on your visit to San Francisco. Must check it out!
