Waxy O’Connor’s, a three-story combination of gothic design, weird lanterns, and Irish charm, has all your drinking and dining requirements covered. This is the place to go for a full supper or a raucous Guinness and whisky-filled night. Waxy O’Connor’s, a gorgeously designed bar, is more than simply your usual Irish pub. It’s a three-story pub with six bars.
And nine areas, all of which are covered with magnificent woodwork that shoots out of the floors and along the ceiling like a vast forest. Elements of church decor include stained glass, which adorns the ceilings and walls, old lanterns hanging about, and stone and brick backdrops. The crowd here ranges from those in for a bite and a pint to groups in to catch a match (GAA is also shown here for Glasgow’s Irish contingent) and a fun party crowd looking to drown in some old-fashioned Irish revelry. The menu includes hearty Irish and Scottish favorites with haggis, Irish stew, steak, Guinness pie, and bacon and cabbage, all making an appearance. Of course, the Guinness flows, as does the whisky, but there are beers and spirits available if you don’t fancy the house tipples. Spaces are available or even hired, with a later license on request. A vast yet beautiful Merchant City favorite.
