The Washington Avenue location of Houston’s top lesbian bar is a much-needed respite from the surrounding club scene and the male-dominated dance floors that pervade neighboring spots. Bounce along with the DJ inside or head out back for totally different energy on the shockingly large patio. As is dictated by lesbian law, Pearl is pet-friendly inside and out, and the sprawling back patio often features hula-hooping, beer pong, and tacos (no puns, please). The friendly crowd is just as refreshing as the drink menu, which happens to feature a boozy, unicorn-themed ice cream sundae that you basically can’t leave without trying.

Papi’s is Montrose’s only Latinx gay club that offers great drag shows and drink specials all week long! Come experience the spicy side of Montrose! Flowing margaritas, cumbia dancing, DJs spinning Latin beats, Mexican Bingo, and Saturday night performances from a rotating drag crew the Diamantés are all a part of the weekly fun, as is a standout Sunday Funday brunch. Established in 1978, JR’s is an LGBTQ+ Houston staple—when folks come to town looking for a gay bar, they go to JR’s. In an expansive space with a huge back patio and multiple dance floors, there’s plenty of room to let loose. The sights are just as lively as the sounds, too—JR’s is known for its super-cute go-go dancers who work hard for their tips.
