Club Kyō Kuala Lumpur, Guide & Review

Night club in Kuala Lumpur, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala, Basement 3, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The heart of the global underground soundscape, kyō re-envisions its European music influence and Asian sensibilities in its cinematic musical presentation. The space is a labyrinth where deep within, the ferocity of the music commands the night, mesmerising its inhabitants with its energetic vibe. The house of kyō tempers with minimalism and industrial chic in an intersection of its Japanese undertones, to create an explorative space and journey into the underground. Music is usually Hip-Hop, R&B, House, Disco, Techno and everything good in between.

Kyo is Powered by Void Acoustics Tri Motion Loudspeakers. It’s just past midnight and in a Kuala Lumpur basement, a heaving, sweaty crowd are watching a DJ bang out techno in near-darkness. It’s easy to forget that above our heads is the five-star Mandarin Oriental, where the vibe is somewhat different: a three-piece jazz band is playing to sedate guests in the foyer.

Downstairs is Kyo, one of Malaysia’s most revered nightlife destinations. Pounding out dark four-four business behind the decks, EJ Missy is initially introduced to DJ Mag as the club’s marketing manager, but her selections are such that we make a mental note to look her up after the show. Belgian DJ/producer Charlotte de Witte is headlining, and there’s evidently an admiration for her in this part of the world, judging by the sea of phones that appear as she pushes through the crowd. So guys I just wanna say Kyo Kl is the best club in town, we can have fun until the sun rises and feel the vibes with your best friends.
