The Avery
The Avery is a speakeasy-style bar offering handcrafted cocktails & a long list of beers in a dark & cozy setting. Check out The Avery on the West Side for another speakeasy-style cocktail bar. The Avery is the West Side’s neighborhood bar. They feature a stunning design, a great atmosphere, and flawless service. Their drink menu is a great starting point, but ask your server for their recommendations. Because of COVID-19, they are only open for outside seating. The exterior of the building looks residential, and the windows are darkened, so patrons may be surprised when they walk in to find a gorgeous cocktail lounge with wood-carved walls and velvet booths. The Avery has a fantastic selection of fancy cocktails and craft beers—they boast a list of 40 beers and over 60 different whiskeys.
With friendly bartenders who commit to quality drink making, you can be sure to have a good time in this vintage neighborhood bar. Fun fact: this is an authentic speakeasy, and the location has featured a bar since the Prohibition era. In a dark and quiet environment, this speakeasy-style pub serves handmade drinks and a vast range of beers. The Avery is tucked away in a quiet residential area in West Providence. But within, there’s a stunning varnished wood interior with illuminated art-nouveau wood cutouts. A unique take on a neighborhood tavern! The Avery is physically situated in a residential area. It’s a great location! Relax and unwind. A little retro speakeasy feels. Basic cocktails and martinis are available, as well as some oldies but favorites.
Last Word, Old Fashioned, SideCar, Paper Plane. It’s worth a shot before or after supper. Cheers! Art Deco-style bar. On Tuesday evening, we came to a halt, and it was a freezing, if not slightly gloomy, environment. They offer an excellent drink menu, and the atmosphere is fantastic, with excellent tin ceiling tiles and spectacular laser cuts at the bar. A great place to unwind on a date or with a small group. Cozy (read: extremely tiny) bar – Excellent Cocktails – Cool vibe My fave local hangout! Great sentiments from the customers, and ALWAYS good service from the employees. The drinks are excellent, and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate you. I recommend Avery to my friends when I’m in the West End. So, this is one of the best bars Providence has to offer you!
The Eddy
The Eddy is a classy, small cocktail bar in the center of downtown Providence. The cocktail bar offers traditional and inventive drinks and interesting nibbles in a stylish, softly lighted setting. This restaurant is one of my favorites because of its continuously changing menu, tranquil setting, and upscale bar food selections. Step inside from the cold of New England to enjoy a customized beverage created by a professional bartender. The French Pearl (Hayman’s Old Tom Gin, St. George Absinthe, mint, and lime) and the Ruby Tuesday are two of my faves on their menu (hibiscus-infused pisco, Aperol, mango, and lime). As far as food goes, you can not go wrong with some classic Rhode Island seafood or a highly curated charcuterie board. Bon appetit!

Their exotic liqueurs, housemade cordials, and aptly-named concoctions cannot be matched. Local beers, wines, and small house made plates round out the menu. The Eddy serves Providence’s classiest cocktail combinations, a substantial assortment of on-tap and bottled beers, and an impressive wine list. Nothing let this palette down! Super chill spot with wonderful snacks, cuisine, and beverages. The bartenders are kind and deliver excellent service. You won’t be sorry if you pay a visit here! If you want to drink, Eddy’s is the place to go. In any case, they have relatively few food alternatives. Because it was so gloomy, the mood felt unattractive.
I’ve also observed a personnel scarcity. We went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday. However, I felt that I had destroyed my birthday dinner arrangements. My girlfriend and I came here looking for a sound bar environment. Eddy exceeded our expectations. It was pretty charming and comfy, and the beverages were fantastic. The little bread and meat pieces were ideal for a snack. I’ve been here multiple times, and I’m always blown away by how amazing this place is. Cocktails. This is what they are known for. If you’re getting a beer, you’re missing out big time! Yea, it’s a bit expensive. But what you do is hands down one of the best cocktails you will have. Orange Julius Caesar is my favorite. Food. Come on now. I didn’t expect much, but I was oh so wrong. Cuban sliders? Divine. I order them every time now. Guacamole? Yea, you guessed it. Delicious.
The Malted Barley
The Malted Barley is a large, laid-back bar with rotating artisan beers, gourmet soft pretzels, and Foosball. It is a lovely spot to relax and have delicious food and beverages while playing Foosball. The gluten-free pretzels and meal selections were excellent. We had a terrific experience the first time and returned with a buddy the next day while in town for the Providence marathon. I suggest this restaurant because of the food, service, and general atmosphere. When I arrived at about 2 p.m., I first noticed how noisy everything was. The music was playing loudly. It didn’t help that many tiny children were roaming about. The serving sizes are relatively tiny. Because of the saltiness, I thought my pretzel sandwich was practically inedible. I know it’s a pretzel place, and pretzels are supposed to be salty, but this was insane.
It is a fantastic facility with many beers (mainly from New England) and friendly personnel. The pretzels they produce are incredible—we were advised to try the jalapeño and cheddar-loaded pretzel with apricot butter, and it was out of this world! That combination will keep me coming back indefinitely. We also got the asiago and parmesan pretzel with the beard cheese, then for dinner, I had the house salad, while my fellow guests had the meatball sandwich (in patty shape) and the burger—everything was excellent! Unfortunately, they were out of chicken to add to my salad. There are usually a lot of beers on draught, and I’d want to follow The Malted Barley on Untappd to see what new beers are arriving for me to taste next.
I noticed a large order of pretzels for catering takeout, and now I know what I will be bringing to all future events. Saw a sign for trivia on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. I can’t wait to go back soon to play and to try more of their pretzel options and excellent beers. The Malted Barley is a celebration of all things artisanal. This means handcrafted beer, freshly made food, and dedicated people. The Malted Barley’s major attraction is the Malted Barley Brewing Company, which makes beer exclusively for restaurants. It doesn’t get better than locally made beer. Some of their best include the “Dipahh,” an American Double IPA, and the “Dangerine,” a tangerine kettle sour. For food, be sure to try one of their famous pretzels. Available in eight different zesty flavors and served alongside a lengthy list of dips.
Bayberry Beer Hall
Bayberry Beer Hall is a relaxed hangout serving local craft beers & global bar bites showcasing area ingredients. We headed to Barberry’s for brunch at about 1 pm on a Saturday. I ordered the chicken and waffles. It was excellent. Everyone had a different meal. Their portions were pretty substantial. You self walk to your table, read the menu, and self-order. They served us quickly—a charming location. The atmosphere was fantastic. There is free parking in a whole lot. The meal was delicious. The biscuits were delicious with jam and butter. I had chicken and waffles for breakfast. The chicken was flawless, but the waffles were too crispy for my liking. However, they were still excellent. We also enjoyed some beautiful mimosas. Today, my kid questioned if “this location” (Bayberry) was a brewery (no), restaurant (no? ), or bar (no?).
I honestly didn’t have a response, and it was a valid question. My wife offered “food hall,” but she left out the beer. We never really answered that question satisfactorily. But I can tell you this: Bayberry Beer Hall serves a wide variety of craft beers from New York and farther north, both on draught and in cans, as well as a variety of really skillfully cooked sandwiches and entrees, all in a unique environment with both indoor and outdoor seating. My spicy fried chicken sandwich was delicious. The fries were particularly delicious, as were the pickles. My wife enjoyed her grass-fed beef burger, and my kid enjoyed the chicken dumplings. The sourdough pretzel we started with was a little bland, but the mustard spread (may have been butter in it?) made it all good in the end.
The beer selection was fantastic, and the bartenders knew a lot about it. We had a few samplers and were far more pleased with the samples they chose for us than with the ones we chose for ourselves. Bayberry’s ice cream shocked me the most. We tried the Golden Milk (for my wife) and the Black Raspberry Chip, which were the only flavors available (for me). I’m not a fan of golden milk with its Tumeric and peppery flavor, but my wife enjoyed it. On the other hand, my raspberry ice cream was one of the most excellent fruit-flavored ice creams I’ve ever had, and I eat and review a lot of ice cream. So, this is one of the best bars in the city!
Free Play Bar Arcade
Free Play Bar Arcade is a playful watering hole for the 21+ crowd offering free classic arcade games, beer on tap & pizza. Now’s the time if you’re not yet familiar with the bar arcade concept. New England’s largest Bar Arcade with more than 160 classic Video Games, Pinball, Skee Ball, Air Hockey, and DDR – all set to Free Play! Must be 21+ to enter. Remember when you were a kid and used to love to play arcade games and eat pizza? Add your favorite drinks and beers, and get yourself a bar arcade. Free Play Bar Arcade boasts a fantastic assortment of retro arcade games and a fantastic selection of craft beers. Relax with a pint and a slice of pizza to see whether you still have what it takes to be a pinball champion.
This bar also has regular special events, including retro dance nights with a DJ. Free Play has a location in Worcester, Massachusetts, for those further up north. What a pleasant surprise this was. There was a great selection of games here, from old arcade games, excellent pinball classics, skee ball, and air hockey. There was also a full bar. The lights, the sounds, and the smell are sure to take you back to your childhood. We planned a short stay but ended up having so much fun that we stood for three hours. The staff was great. The crowd was great. We can’t wait to return. Let me preface this by saying that I’ve been to many arcades in my days and travels, and Free Play Bar Arcade ranks among my favorites. Some cabinets are hard to find, plus games I’ve never played.
They also have some music arcades from Japan that I’ve only seen at one other Arcade. We arrived at the opening on Sunday evening (7 pm), and it was $7 to play. You pay at the door and can stay until close. There is a separate outside smoking section. Everything from pinball to cabinets to racing games (including Mario Kart) and even DDR is here. My favorites are Burger Time, DigDug, Ms. Pac-man, Qbert, and Tapper; they were all there! Plus, I’d never heard of games that I can’t wait to go back and master (have you ever heard of Zoo Keeper?). They have a cocktail list (prices ranged from about $9-$15, if I recall), wine, and bottles/cans of beer as well.
